The pandemic is difficult. You probably know someone who is dealing with worry and anxiety. Maybe it’s yourself? In his book, The Worry Cure, Robert L. Leahy shares the best ways to address the struggle and reduce stress in our lives. The secret is to get to productive worry as soon as possible.
It’s natural that we jump in to help someone and offer advice. The problem is, that saying these loves of things doesn’t help.
Yvon Chouinard, Founder of Patagonia, generously shares the questions from the Patagonia design philosophy in his book, Let My People Go Surfing. Patagonia’s mission statement is “We’re in business to save our home planet.” This is a more succinct version of their previous mission statement that shows their high regard for making a great product and what we can learn from them:

My family was craving cookies so I scavenged the cabinets for something reasonably healthy. These Redline Oats by Stoked Oats are pretty coffee-intense for breakfast but looked like a good candidate for an afternoon pick-me-up. The nice thing is that they have walnuts and chocolate chips which didn’t exist in any other form in my house.
Since my family liked this creation, I’m writing it down for them.
1/4 cup butter
1.5 cups Redline Oats (or whatever other fancy oat mix you might have)
1 cup whole wheat flower
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
A tangle of yellow against a garage door caught my eye. Within the tangle was a man. A safety vest and jumper cables pinned him to the door. One foot with only a sock in a puddle that traced up his leg.
I checked the street and my conscience before running to him. There would always be another train.
“He’s crazy,” a woman said behind me. “We’ve called an ambulance and he doesn’t want it.”
“Fucking right, I don’t want it!” He yelled.
“Don’t worry about the ambulance,” I said. “Let’s focus on you. What’s going on? Are you ok?”
